Joan Wilson-Greene

Joan Wilson-Greene has spent more than four decades helping students discover the joy of making music. She earned her Master of Music in Piano Accompanying from Southern Methodist University and has enjoyed a distinguished career as a piano educator, collaborative pianist, opera rehearsal accompanist, and musical theatre musician. Her experience includes work with the Dallas Opera, Southern Methodist University, and numerous schools, churches, and community music programs.

Joan’s love of music began at an early age. Surrounded by a musical family, she started piano lessons at just four years old and couldn’t wait for her turn to practice each day. By age seven she was already playing for Sunday School classes, and by ten she was accompanying church services. While studying at Southern Methodist University, she discovered that her greatest passion was not only performing, but helping young musicians grow through thoughtful, encouraging instruction.

Joan believes that every child learns differently. She takes time to understand each student’s personality, learning style, and individual strengths, then tailors lessons to help them develop confidence, independence, and a lifelong love of music. One of her greatest priorities is teaching students *how* to practice effectively, giving them the tools to make meaningful progress between lessons.

Parents especially appreciate Joan’s warm, encouraging approach. She communicates with families at the end of every lesson, celebrating accomplishments, outlining goals for the coming week, and working together to support each child’s musical growth. She believes that when teachers and parents work as a team, students flourish both musically and personally.

Joan is passionate about helping children experience success on their own terms. Whether teaching a young beginner or a more advanced pianist, she strives to create lessons that inspire curiosity, build confidence, and foster a lifelong appreciation for the beauty of music.
