Carter Fogg
I am a violinist and dedicated teacher of violin and viola, offering private and group lessons since 2022. In my teaching, I strive to create a supportive yet challenging environment where students can learn, grow, and express themselves with confidence and creativity. I work to build personal connections with each student—getting to know their interests and personality inside and outside of the lesson—so that I can adapt my teaching style to suit their unique needs.
Parents and students appreciate my calm, reassuring demeanor, consistent and thorough communication, and willingness to be flexible and adaptive if something isn’t working. While I tend to be more reserved and soft-spoken, I offer both encouraging and constructive feedback in a kind and thoughtful manner.
My teaching draws on a diverse range of pedagogical traditions and methods, including Rolland, Zweig, Menuhin, Suzuki, and Doflein. I thoughtfully incorporate concepts from each to support well-rounded musical and technical development while keeping lessons engaging and tailored to the student. Whether a student is just beginning or looking to refine their playing at an advanced level, I focus on a balanced approach that includes both technical work and appropriate repertoire.
I am currently pursuing my Master of Music in Performance at the Longy School of Music, where I was honored to be named the 2024 Maria Giustina Mastrangelo Brosio Memorial Scholar. I earned my Bachelor of Music in Performance from Miami University. As a performer, I’ve attended music festivals such as the Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival and have experience playing in pit orchestras for both musicals and operas.
At the heart of my work is a belief in the power of music to build community, foster empathy, and connect people across differences. I teach because I’m passionate about helping students discover their voice, explore diverse musical traditions, and find joy in lifelong learning through music.
