Mary Davis
Mary Davis, Violin Instructor – Sharon, MA
Mary Davis is a violinist and dedicated teacher who is passionate about helping students discover a love for music and grow in confidence through their studies.
Mary’s own journey with music began at a young age after exploring many different activities without finding the right fit. When she discovered music, everything changed—she had finally found something that felt meaningful and uniquely her own. That experience continues to shape her teaching today, as she strives to help each student find that same sense of purpose and connection.
She began teaching with the goal of guiding students toward discovering their own potential and passion. Mary especially enjoys working with children and families, finding great fulfillment in watching students progress and seeing the pride and joy that music brings to both students and parents.
Her teaching style is highly interactive and demonstration-based. She believes students learn best when they are actively engaged—seeing, doing, and experiencing music firsthand during lessons.
Mary is thoughtful and encouraging when students face challenges. She helps them understand that progress is not always linear and that overcoming obstacles is a natural and rewarding part of learning. For students who are shy or easily discouraged, she focuses on creating a supportive, comfortable environment where they feel safe to grow both musically and personally.
One of her most meaningful teaching experiences was helping a young student at a summer orchestra program who struggled to read and play her music. Through consistent guidance and encouragement, the student made significant progress and gained confidence—an experience that reinforced Mary’s commitment to building both skill and self-belief in her students.
Mary values strong communication with parents and works to keep them informed about their child’s progress in a way that fits each family’s needs. She believes that when parents are actively supportive, students are more motivated and engaged in their musical journey.
Mary began studying piano at age 6 before switching to violin at age 12. In 2018, she began studying with Kelly Barr, former Boston Symphony Orchestra violinist. She later attended the New England Conservatory Preparatory School, where she performed in the Junior Repertory Orchestra, Youth Repertory Orchestra, and Youth Symphony, and participated in the Summer Orchestra Institute. She also earned multiple recognitions, including three gold medals at the MICCA Festival and participation in Senior District Orchestra.
Mary is currently pursuing her Bachelor’s degree in Violin Performance and Music Production at Berklee College of Music. She performs regularly with the Apollo Ensemble of Boston and the Horizon Ensemble.
As a teacher, Mary is committed to helping each student feel excited about lessons, supported in their growth, and confident in their abilities—both in music and beyond.
